Twitter limits TweetDeck access after security bug

If you use TweetDeck regularly, you'll have either noticed that the service is down or that you could access other people's accounts that you usually have no access to. The TweetDeck web app went down after a bug allowed users to access accounts that were not their own. Once you log out of your account, you will not be able to log back in. The bug was discovered on Friday, by a Twitter user, Geoff Evanson (@gevanson) tweeting to TweetDeck, while cc-ing Twitter said that the TweetDeck web application has given him access to hundreds of accounts and that the service should look into that. He also attached a picture to the tweet, illustrating the accounts he had access to. He said that the service gave him access to hundreds of accounts by simply him logging into his account. TweetDeck later posted a tweet confirming that the service was down and that they apologize for the inconvenience. Neither did they specify the reason for the outage, nor did they say when the service will be back up.

Twitter admitted to another bug earlier this week, which messed up users' follower counts. The bug would make it appear that a user hadn't been following someone, even though the user was certain of it and the person would show up in the follower list. However, the user in the follower list would still have the "follow" button next to his or her name (despite being on the list that they're on) and the two individuals would not be able to send each other direct messages. The microblog service said that they had engineers working on the matter, but did not specify when the bug would be fixed. 

Twitter also recently updated TweetDeck to allow users to edit and retweet another user's tweet. This was a feature that existed when TweetDeck operated independently, but was taken away when Twitter bought TweetDeck. After much requesting and cajoling from users, the edit and retweet function is back. Furthermore, the columns in TweetDeck can now better reflect the sections that exist on Twitter for web, where you have the Interactions column where all your mentions, retweets, your tweets favourited and follows will be. There is also the Activity column, which shows your followers' retweets, favourite tweets and follows. Furthermore, Twitter added in-line media to tweets in TweetDeck, so you can see previews of images and videos in the tweets themselves.
